MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team pulled off a thrilling 64-62 win over Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday evening inside the Loch.
Jada Alston buried a pair of free throws in the final seconds of the game to seal the win for the Lakers.
Jasmyn Burts started off the game for the Lakers red hot as she marked four field goals in the first five minutes and made the score, 14-9.
Armani Shaw, who made her first start of the season, buried a three during that stretch. The Lakers continued to shoot the ball well as
Kyla Greene, and Alston marked field goals in the final minutes of the quarter and the score read, 19-12 after one quarter of play.
Waite and
Ky'Leo Worriels supplied the early offense for the Lakers at the start of the second quarter making the score, 23-12. With four minutes left in the quarter, the offense picked up for both teams. At the score, 26-21, the Lakers saw baskets from
Kyla Greene and
Etaria Gibbons which made the score, 30-21.
Gibbons scored the final basket of the half for either team, but the Lakers led, 32-24 going into the halftime break. The Hurricanes were held scoreless for the last 2:40 of the half.

Alston tossed in the first two buckets of the third quarter and made the score, 36-26. The Hurricanes then went on a 9-2 run and closed the gap to five at 38-33. After
Sariya Henry flipped up a layup to make the score, 42-35, GSW eventually took their first lead of the game after going on an 8-0 run and made the score, 43-42. Alston scored the final three points of the quarter for Clayton State, and they led, 45-43 going into the final quarter of play.
Shaw provided the early offense in the fourth quarter for the Lakers and they jumped out to a 50-45 lead. The two teams played a very competitive fourth quarter throughout as they traded shot-for-shot. In the final minute of the game, Alston took over and made a pair of critical field goals and made the score, 62-59, with 22 ticks left.
Hurricane guard Destiny Garrett buried a three with eight seconds left and knotted the game up at 62. Alston then got fouled with six seconds left and sent her free throws through the net as the Lakers escaped the Loch with a 64-62 win over GSW.
