AIKEN,S.C. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team picked up the 66-61 win over USC Aiken on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers outscored the Pacers, 25-14, in the second half to solidify the win.
The Lakers scored the nine of the first 11 points of the game and led, 9-2. Three-balls by
Jada Alston and
Jadah Waite sparked that run. The Pacers eventually closed that gap and took the lead after going on a 12-0 run and made the score, 19-14.
Kyla Greene,
Amiyah Edney-Holmes, and
Etaria Gibbons all scored in the final moments for the Lakers and the Pacers took a 26-22 lead after the first 10 minutes. Greene and Waite generated the early offense for the Lakers early in the second quarter and tied the game at 26. The Lakers then saw threes from Waite and
Kyla Greene and knotted the score at 37.
The Pacers closed the second quarter on an 8-3 run and led, 47-41 at the half. USC Aiken shot a tremendous 70% from the field, the Lakers shot 72% from beyond the arc, and Waite led the team with 13 points on 5-for-5 shooting.
Nya Young led the Lakers with six assists.

The third quarter proved to be an offensive struggle for both teams and combined for only six field goals. Waite, Edney-Holmes, Alston, and
Hannah Wright scored the field goals for Clayton State. The Pacers took a slim 53-51 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Lakers managed to score 10 of the first 12 points of the fourth quarter and took a 61-55 lead.
Jasmyn Burts,
Ky'Leo Worriels, and Wright combined to score the final five points of the game as the Lakers sealed a 66-61 victory over the Pacers.
