Women's Basketball Concludes Road Trip with 76-67 Loss at Georgia College

The Lakers saw three players score in double figures

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team kicked off its three-game week with a loss at Georgia College & State University, 76-67, on Monday evening.  Ky'Leo Worriels paced the Lakers scoring 16 points and grabbing eight boards. 
 
The Bobcats got off to a good start to the game as they led early 7-3.  Jada Alston then buried a three and made the score, 7-6.  The Bobcats then went on a 10-4 run and made the score 17-10.  The story of the quarter was GCSU buried four threes and took a 22-16 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game.  Worriels, Paige McDonald, and Kyla Greene scored points for the Lakers down the stretch. 
 
Greene buried a three to start the second quarter for the Lakers and made the score, 24-19.  After the Bobcats extended their lead to 30-21, the Lakers closed the gap to three after Etaria Gibbons and Jadah Waite tossed in baskets and made the score, 30-27.  The Bobcats were then leading 34-28 with 3:15 left and Jasmyn Burts drilled a pair of threes and made the score, 36-34. 
 
Greene closed the half with a three-ball and the Lakers only trailed, 38-37, going into the halftime break.  Kyla led the way with eight points while Alston followed with six points and five boards.

The Lakers took the early lead in the third quarter after Alston flipped in a layup.  The score read, 39-38. The two teams then went back-and-fourth until GCSU grabbed the momentum.  At the score, 42 all, the Bobcats went on a 9-0 run and led, 51-42.  The Lakers then fought back.  Worriels scored five of the next eight points and closed the gap to 51-50.  Greene also hit a three during that run.  The Bobcats then scored seven of the final 12 points and clung to a 58-55 lead going into the fourth quarter. 
 
The Bobcats scored the first five points of the fourth quarter and made the score, 63-55.  A pair of buckets by Worriels made the score, 65-59.  GCSU kept up the pace in the midway part of the fourth quarter and led 70-62 with three minutes left. 
 
Despite baskets by Dazjanae Greene, and Worriels, the Bobcats took down the Lakers, 76-67.

  • Kyla Greene dropped in 15 points on 5-for-6 shooting and went 4-for-5 from beyond the arc.
