Men's Basketball Fell to USC Aiken in South Carolina

Emmanuel Jones turned in his first career Laker double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds

AIKEN, S.C. – The Clayton State University men's basketball team traveled to play USC Aiken on Saturday afternoon.  The Pacers took control from the jump and defeated the Lakers, 71-52. 
 
The Lakers saw baskets from Jamall Clyce and Emmanuel Jones at the beginning of the first half and took a 5-2 lead.  The Pacers then took control of the game and went on a 12-0 run and made the score, 14-5.  Jojo Bell broke up that run with a dunk.  USC Aiken continued to carry the momentum and made the score, 23-10, in the halfway point of the half.  Then, Christian Chambers and DJ Wright both made shots and closed the gap to 10 at 25-15. 
 
Yannis Woods and Chambers closed the half with points, but USC Aiken took the 37-20 lead going into the halftime break.  The story of the half was that the Pacers outrebounded the Lakers, 26-15, and outscored the Lakers, 15-0, on points off turnovers.

Aaron Pitts and Clyce tossed in the early points for the Lakers and made the score, 37-25.  The Pacers then went on an extended 14-2 run and grabbed the momentum back and led 51-27.  A layup by Woods and a three-ball by Wright ended the USC Aiken run to make the score, 51-32.  The two teams then went nearly four minutes without scoring until Chambers slammed a dunk through the net and Tahai Morgan tossed in a layup to make the score, 57-40. 
 
Jones scored 10 of the final 12 Laker points but the Pacers took this one winning, 71-52.

  • Jones led the Lakers with a double-double scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 boards. 
  • Clyce followed behind with nine points while Woods followed behind with seven boards.

The Lakers (6-11 (0-7 PBC)) conclude their road trip with a trip to Milledgeville to play the Bobcats of Georgia College & State University on Monday, January 27th at 7:30 p.m. The Lakers and Bobcats are making up a game that was postponed on Wednesday, January 22nd from Winter Storm Enzo.
