AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) unveiled its selections for the women's soccer Team of Academic Distinction on Wednesday morning, presented by Barnes & Noble College. The Clayton State University women's soccer program saw seven of its athletes make the list. In all, the PBC saw 70 selections across the conference.
Trinity Chastain and
Daniela Gularte are the Lakers that earned their second-straight PBC Team of Academic Distinction mention while
Chloe Flannaghan,
Samantha Giel,
Jessica Fuentes,
Lydia Madrid Sobreira, and
Madison Nicolas earned this award for the first time in their Laker career. In all, the PBC saw 70 selections from all its institutions.
Chastain, who is a native of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., can add this to a list of academic achievements that include CSC All-District, PBC Presidential Honor Roll, and D2ADA Academic Achievement selections. This season was a special one for Chastain as she only conceded 11 goals which averaged out to .81 GAA which is good for third-best in program history. In addition, she pitched six shutouts, posted a 7-2-5 record, and notched 60 saves. Gularte, who is a Bluffton, S.C. native, can add this honor to a list of academic honors that include PBC Presidential Honor Roll, and D2ADA Academic Achievement accolades.
Flannaghan, who is a native of Whitley Bay, England, earns this award for the first time as she also can add this to a list of accolades that includes a CSC Academic All-District, PBC Presidential Honor Roll, and D2ADA Academic Achievement nod. This season saw Chloe score one goal and add an assist in 1222 minutes. Giel, who is an Acworth, Ga., native was a placed on the PBC Presidential Honor Roll last season and played in 11 matches in 2024 for the Lakers. A native of Lilburn, Ga., Fuentes adds this academic achievement to a list that includes the CSC Academic All-District, and PBC Presidential Honor Roll nods. This season saw Fuentes play in 15 matches and notch 11 shots.
A native of Murcia, Spain, Madrid Sobreira can add this accolade to list of honors that include PBC Presidential Honor Roll and D2ADA Academic Achievement selections. This season saw Lydia suit up for 11 matches and notched an assist against Shorter. To round out the selections was
Madison Nicolas. A native of Greeneville, Ind., Nicolas has been busy gathering academic accolades in her career including earning CSC Academic All-District and PBC Presidential Honor Roll honors.
ABOUT THE AWARD
To be eligible for this distinction, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. The Peach Belt Conference sports communications professionals oversee the program.
