COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team battled Columbus State University on Wednesday evening. The Cougars took control of the game early and took down the Lakers, 84-59.
The first quarter proved to be high scoring as the two team combined for 42 points. The Lakers went up, 10-7 early.
Jadah Waite and
Jada Alston combined for the first 10 Laker points.
Ky'Leo Worriels eventually tied the game at 14 but the Cougars went on a 10-4 run to end the quarter and led 24-18 after the first 10 minutes of play. The Cougars continued to distance themselves from the Lakers at the beginning of the second quarter and made the score, 30-21.
Sariya Henry hit a jumper during that stretch.
Alston and Henry continued to produce the offense for the Lakers to close the second quarter as Columbus State took a 40-29 lead going into the halftime break.

The Lakers saw early offense from Worriels and Henry, but the Cougars got off to a hot start and extended their lead to 51-33. With six minutes left in the quarter, Alston's three sparked a 9-4 run and made the score, 55-42.
Nya Young and
Etaria Gibbons scored points for the Lakers in final 2:30 but still trailed 60-46 going into the fourth quarter. Columbus State got off to a red-hot start in the fourth quarter scoring the first nine points and grew their lead to 69-46. At the score, 72-48, the Lakers tried to claw back into the game and as they went on a 10-3 run and made the score, 75-58.
Paige McDonald and
Amiyah Edney-Holmes were among the scorers for the Lakers.
The Cougars scored nine of the final 10 points and went onto win, 84-59.
