Men's Basketball Suffers an 85-70 Loss to #25 Columbus State

The Lakers saw four players score in double-figures

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Clayton State University men's basketball faced No. 25 Columbus State on Wednesday evening.  The Cougars controlled the entire game and went onto win, 85-70.
 
The offense came to play for both teams as 71 points were scored in the first half.  DJ Wright proved the early offense in the half as he scored the first five points, but Columbus State led, 6-5.  As the Cougars were pulling away, Lay Davis tossed in a hook shot and Emmanuel Jones drained a three and made the score, 13-10. At the score, 15-12, Columbus State went on a 9-2 run and led, 24-16.  The Lakers then made the next three field goals and closed the gap to 24-20.  Columbus State then controlled the tempo of the rest of the first half. 
 
Dashaun Joseph, Mason Pierre, and Wright scored points down the stretch for the Lakers, but they trailed 41-30 at the half.  Wright led with 11 points and the team shot 40% from the field.   
 
Halftime: #25 Columbus State 41, Clayton State 30
 
Lay Davis and Wright supplied the early offense for the Lakers in the second half and the score read, 49-38. After Jones made a layup making the score 56-44, the Cougars went on an 11-2 run and extended their lead to 68-46. Columbus State kept up its offensive tempo and did not let Clayton State get back into the game as they shot a stifling 58% from the field in the half including going 4-for-8 from beyond the arc. 
 
Yannis Woods and Pitts combined to score the final 14 Laker points, but the Cougars ended up winning the game, 85-70.

  • Pitts led the team with 18 points while Wright added 15 points.
  • Jones followed with a season-high 11 points and Davis tossed in 10.

  • The Cougars shot 50% from the field while the Lakers shot at a 44% clip.
