Women's Soccer Blanks AUM on Sunday Afternoon

Leah Agrell scored the lone Laker goal in the 66th minute

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Clayton State University women's soccer team moves to 2-0 for the first time since 2019 as they defeated Auburn-Montgomery, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon.

The Lakers and Warhawks ended the first 45 minutes with a score of 0-0.  The first half proved to be a possession battle as each team did not have many opportunities to score.  The Lakers only amassed five shots the entire half with Carrie Consolino taking three of those shots.  Leah Agrell and Amiah Sprunger-Hightower took a shot each.  The best opportunity for the Lakers was in the 33rd minute when Sprunger-Hightower's shot was stoned by the AUM keeper right in front of the net.

Halftime: Clayton State 0, AUM 0

The Laker defense continued to stand tall into the second half of play as they did not allow a Warhawk shot until the 88th minute.  Clayton State's offense, however, was just heating up as they continued to put pressure on the AUM keeper as Elza Kovy and Hanna Karlsson sent shots in.  The Lakers, eventually, found the back of the net.  In the 66th minute, off a pass from Julia Hasenecz, Agrell scored her second goal of the season and made the score, 1-0.

Laker keeper Trinity Chastian saved a pair of shots in the final moments of the second half as Clayton State held onto down Auburn-Montgomery, 1-0.
