Cross Country Opens its 2024 Season at the GMC Brickyard Invitational

Camron Gaddis finished in fifth as the men took third and the women took fourth

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Clayton State University cross country teams took part in its first race of the season in the GMC Brickyard Invitational on Friday evening. The Laker women finished in fourth out of 10 teams while the men finished in third place. 
 
WOMEN'S RACE
Leading the way for the Lakers was Ivorie Smith and Marley Tate.  Smith finished in 14th place with a time of 21:25.38 while Tate followed right behind her in 15th with a time of 21:25.87.  Story Alexander then finished in 23rd place with a time of 22:16.59.  JaBresha Palmer and Kalkidan Hawkins rounded out the top five finishers for the Lakers with finishes of 33rd and 34th place, respectively.

  2. Reinhardt: 69 points
  3. GCSU: 72 points
  4. Clayton State: 115 points

MEN'S RACE
The Lakers were led by junior Camron Gaddis who finished in fifth place with a time of 26:57.68.  Following Gaddis was Rakiem Barnes who crossed the finish line in 13th place clocking a time of 27:30.43.  Finishing not far behind in 15th place is freshman Emanuel Dixon.  Dixon crossed the finish line with a time of 27:36.22.  Rounding out the top five finishers for the Lakers were Khayri Davis and Mykell Strickland who finished in 21st and 23rd, respectively. 
 
The Lakers saw seven of its runners,place in the top 30 and finished in third place as a team.

The Lakers race in the Julius Johnson Invitational on Saturday, September 21st down in Macon, Ga.  The women race at 8 a.m. while the men takes to the starting line at 8:45 a.m.
