BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Clayton State University track & field teams competed in the USA Jaguar Indoor Invitational on Sunday. The Lakers saw successful performances at their last meet before the Peach Belt Conference Indoor Meet later this month.
The meet started off in a big way for the Lakers as
Ariyonna Jones broke the indoor school record and grabbed an NCAA DII provisional mark in the 400m dash with a time of 56.77. Jones, who finished in third place in the race, is the first Laker to go sub-57 seconds in the 400m dash. Ariyonna beat out 33 other runners from Division I to NAIA. Jones was not finished yet as she also broke the school record in the 200m dash with a final time of 24.89. Ariyonna, who finished in seventh place, is the first Clayton State female to go sub-25 seconds in the race.
Later in the meet,
Camron Gaddis finished eighth in the mile with a time of 4:21.28. With that final time, Gaddis set a new PR and is currently fourth in program history. In the 800m run,
Sancho Smith placed sixth with a final time of 1:56.70. That time for Smith is a new PR and is good for sixth in program history. In the field events,
Davonte Jackson finished in the top-15 in both the long and triple jumps while
Jaazer Ridges finished in 22
nd in the triple jump.

The Lakers compete in the inaugural Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Indoor Track & Field Championships on Monday, February 19
th. The meet will be held down in Gainesville, Fla.
