Blade's Double-Double Lifts the Lakers over the Sand Sharks on Saturday Afternoon

BLUFFTON, S.C. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team swept the season series against the USC Beaufort Sand Sharks after winning on Saturday afternoon, 62-55.  Three of the five Laker starters scored in double figures.

The Lakers and Sand Sharks played very evenly matched first half as neither team led by more than four points and found themselves tied at 28 going into the halftime break. Jasmyn Burts led the Lakers with nine points while Tamaria White followed with seven points.  Neither team made a three in the first quarter while White and Jadah Waite made threes in the second quarter. USCB did not make a three in the first 20 minutes of the game.

Halftime: Clayton State 28, USCB 28

The Lakers took over the game at the start of the second half. Nina Blade was a huge part of that offensive production as she accounted for the first 11 points scored by the Lakers as they pulled ahead by seven at 39-32.  Then, Deborrah Redmon converted a three-point play, and the Lakers grabbed their largest lead of the game at 42-34.  Beaufort then cut the game to two at 42-40 going into the fourth quarter.  The Sand Sharks picked up where they left off in the third quarter and eventually took the lead at 46-42.  With under five left, timely offense by the Lakers saw them take a seven-point lead at 58-51 with 2:20 left.

The Lakers held onto to defeat USCB, 62-55, and thus swept the season series.
