BLUFFTON, S.C. – The Clayton State University men's basketball team went down to the Lowcountry of South Carolina and handed the USC Beaufort Sand Sharks an 88-84 loss on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers saw four players hit double-figure scoring totals.
The two teams played a very competitive first seven minutes of the first half until USCB went on a 13-1 scoring run and led by 12 at 30-18.
Travis Harper II tossed in three of this 16 first half points to end the Sand Shark Run. The Lakers saw timely offense by
Keandre Bowles, Harper II, and
Tyler Shirley to get within three at 48-45 heading into the halftime break.

The Lakers flipped the script at the beginning of the second half and took their first lead of the game since the 14:42 mark of the first half at 49-48. In the midway part of the half and with the score at 64-62, Beaufort, the Lakers scored seven straight points and took a five-point lead at 69-64. The Lakers eventually built back up their lead to six at 80-74 but the Sand Sharks answered with four unanswered points and cut the game to two points at 80-78.
The Lakers, clinging to a two-point lead, saw
Tyler Shirley hit a three and Harper II,
Jamall Clyce, and
Elijah Dates knock down free throws as they downed USC Beaufort, 88-84.
