MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team kicked off Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play hosting #20 North Georgia on Saturday evening inside the Loch. The Nighthawks pulled away in the second half and took down the Lakers, 78-57. The Nighthawks outscored the Lakers 43-27 in the second half.
The Lakers jumped out to a 10-6 lead early in the first quarter after baskets by
Jadah Waite,
Dazjanae Greene, and
Nya Young. The Nighthawks then took over the quarter at the end and led 20-13 going into the second quarter. North Georgia ended the quarter on a 9-1 run.
Baskets by
Dazjanae Greene and Waite got the Lakers within reach at 20-17 at the beginning of the second quarter. Waite continued to catch fire from the floor and proceeded to bury back-to-back threes and the Lakers took the lead at 23-22. With Clayton State up 26-25, the Nighthawks went on a 9-0 run and took a 34-26 lead.
North Georgia took a 35-30 lead going into the halftime break. Waite led the Lakers with 15 points.
Etaria Gibbons and
Armani Shaw led the team with three boards.
Halftime: #20 North Georgia 35, Clayton State 30
The third quarter was a different story as UNG scored 33 points and took a commanding 68-46 lead.
Dazjanae Greene,
India Dowling-Green, Waite, and
Amiyah Edney-Holmes buried field goals in the quarter. The Lakers could not cut into the deficit in the fourth quarter and the two teams scored a combined 21 points as North Georgia went onto win the game, 78-57.
