MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team closed out home play in 2024 hosting Shorter University on Thursday evening. The Hawks shot a blustering 61% from three and defeated Clayton State, 79-56.
Offense was at a minimum for both teams in the first quarter as the two team combined for 22 points and made the score, 12-10, Shorter.
India Dowling-Green,
Jasmyn Burts,
Etaria Gibbons, and
Jadah Waite scored points for the Lakers. The Lakers continued to struggle offensively in the second quarter as they did not mark a field goal until the five minute mark as
Hannah Wright buried a three. The Hawks led, 22-16. Shorter pulled away from the Lakers in the second quarter of play and led the Lakers, 37-20, at the halftime break.
Shorter shot 6-for-7 from beyond the arc and the Lakers only made four field goals. Waite leads Clayton State with five points and
Aniya Jones led the team with four boards.

Shorter was hot from the field shooting 5-for-6 from beyond the arc and led the Lakers, 62-36. The Lakers saw Burts knock down a pair of threes and Waite score five points in the quarter. The quarter also saw the Lakers get within 14 on multiple occasions which proved to be the closest the Lakers got to the Hawks in the second half. In the fourth quarter, Waite,
Kyla Greene, and Burts produced the early offense for Clayton State and made the score, 70-46.
The Lakers saw
Armani Shaw and
Nya Young score late baskets but Shorter went onto win 79-56.
