MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University men's basketball team earned a 73-63 win over Fort Valley State University on Wednesday evening inside the Loch. The Lakers saw four double digit scoring efforts led by
DJ Wright with 16 points.
Fort Valley State got off to a good start in the first half and led 14-7 in the early going.
Elijah Dates hit a three and Wright and
Yannis Woods made field goals during that stretch. The Wildcats extended their lead to 21-9 until the Lakers started to claw back into the game. A three by
Aaron Pitts sparked a 17-2 run and Clayton State pulled out to a 26-23 lead. The Laker defense held FVSU scoreless for more than seven minutes.
The Lakers closed the half on a 6-0 run and led, 32-26, going into the halftime break. The Wildcats were held scoreless for the final two minutes of the half.

The Lakers continued to distance their lead in the beginning of the second half as they scored eight of the first 12 points of the half and pulled ahead 40-30. Both Wright and Pitts scored four points during that stretch. At the score, 42-31, the two teams traded the next six possessions as the Lakers still led, 48-37.
Dashaun Joseph and Wright made baskets during that run. The Lakers saw production from up-and-down the lineup in the middle stages of the half as
Lay Davis, Dates, and Joseph all made shots. The Laker lead grew to 62-47.
The Lakers controlled the pace of the rest of the game and went onto win, 73-63, earning their fifth win of the season.
