Women's Basketball Suffers Road Setback at #13 Georgia Southwestern

AMERICUS, Ga. – The Clayton State University women' basketball team traveled to the Storm Dome to take on the No. 13 Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes on Wednesday evening.  The Hurricanes topped the Lakers, 83-62. 
 
The Lakers struggled to get anything going offensively in the first quarter as they only were able to muster four points and trailed, 15-4.  Jadah Waite and Nina Blade made field goals for Clayton State.  The Lakers started the second quarter with four free throws and a layup by Aaliyah Reid and made the score, 17-10.    The Lakers saw baskets by Waite, Hannah Wright, and Sariya Henry in the closing minutes of the quarter as they trailed 35-17 going into the half.

Reid and Waite got the scoring started for the Lakers in the early going of the third quarter.  Waite and Reid combined for the first nine points of the quarter and closed the gap to 41-26.  The Lakers went through a stretch of no field goals for almost three minutes, but the Lakers were still within striking distance at 47-34.  Clayton State cut the Hurricane lead to nine at 47-38, after Henry and Waite scored baskets.  The Hurricanes then finished the quarter on a 16-3 run and led the Lakers, 63-41, going into the fourth. Reid and Blade provided the early offense for the Lakers in the fourth quarter, but the Hurricanes were shooting the hot hand from beyond the arc and led 76-50. 
 
The Lakers saw scoring from Tamaria White, Jasmyn Burts, Blade, and Waite down the stretch but the big third quarter by GSW proved to be the difference as they went onto win the game, 83-62.
