Men's Basketball Falls at Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday Evening

Three Lakers scored in double figures

AMERICUS, Ga. – The Clayton State University men's basketball team traveled to play Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday evening.  The Lakers fell to the Hurricanes, 90-79. 
 
The Hurricanes started the first half scoring nine of the first 12 points and made the score, 9-3.  Elijah Dates made a three-point to end the run for GSW.  With the score 13-7, the Lakers saw Jamall Clyce, Eddie Page, Tyler Shirley, and Wes Williams contribute points and cut the game to one at 15-14. At the score, 21-18, the Lakers eventually took the lead at 23-22 after Dates hit his second three of the game.  The two teams continued to trade baskets and neither team led by more than two until about five minutes left in the half. 
 
The Hurricanes finished the final five minutes of the half on a 12-6 run and led Clayton State, 44-40 going into the halftime break.  Marcus Harris, TJ Stargell, and Baqi Lecky made field goals for the Lakers.

Harper II started the second half with a three-pointer and cut the game to one at 44-43.  After Clyce converted an and-one opportunity to make the score, 50-47, the Hurricanes went on a 9-0 run and made the score, 59-47. The Lakers answered with knocking in nine points of the next 11 points and closed the gap to 61-56.  Mohamed Diallo scored six of the nine points. With 7:30 to go in the game, Harper II and Keandre Bowles combined for the next seven Laker points and made the score, 74-67. 
 
The Lakers saw points from Shirley and Harper II in the final three minutes of the game, but the Hurricanes held off the Lakers, 90-78.
