Women's Basketball Opens its PBC Slate with a 73-55 Loss at North Georgia

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Clayton State University opened Peach Belt Conference play with a 73-55 loss at the University of North Georgia on Wednesday evening. 
 
The Lakers fell behind early as they trailed 21-6 at the end of the first quarter.  Nylah Williams, Aaliyah Reid, and Jasmyn Burts scored the points for the Lakers.  Clayton State was held scoreless in the final 3:45 of the quarter.  The Lakers then turned it offensively in the second quarter as they outscored the Nighthawks, 18-14.  North Georgia jumped out to a 28-10 lead but the Lakers started to claw their way back in.  Jada Alson led a 10-0 and cut the Nighthawk lead to eight at 28-20.  That set the tone for the rest of the half as the Lakers only trailed 35-24 going into the halftime break.

North Georgia started the third quarter strong as they marked 10 of the first 13 points and jumped out to a 45-27 lead.  Alston and Williams scored for the Lakers. In the final minute of the quarter, Sariya Henry, Devyne Turner, and Burts all scored for the Lakers but still trailed 52-40 going into the final quarter of play.  Jadah Waite, who led the Lakers with 12 points started off the scoring for the Lakers in the fourth.  The Nighthawks still led 56-44.  After that, North Georgia went on a 9-0 run until Burts knocked down a three-pointer.  The score moved to 65-47. 
 
Hannah Wright drained a pair of threes in the final 1:15 of the game but the Nighthawks went wire-to-wire and won, 73-55.
