SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Clayton State University track & field teams competed in the Sewanee Indoor Invitational on Saturday. The Lakers saw some good performances on the track and in the field. As a team, the Lakers finished sixth out of 18 schools with 82 points.
MEN'S SIDE
The day on the track started in the 55m dash as
Christopher Hart finished third in the finals with a time of 6.45. Next on the track was the 55m hurdles as
Jamiel Robinson and
Ishmeal Neblett both qualified for the finals. Robinson and Neblett took fifth and sixth, with times of 8.71 and 8.74, respectively. The Lakers also saw success in the 200m as
Da'Tavion Lawson placed fourth with a time of 23.82. He followed that up with a sixth-place finish in the 400m with a time of 55.38. The Lakers finished out events on the track in the mile run where
Lance Little led the team with a 19
th place finish with a time of 5:01.28.
The field events were dominated by
Davonte Jackson. Davonte won the triple jump with a final mark of 14.38m, which is the second best in program history. He also finished third in the long jump with a final mark of 6.92m. In the high jump,
Kahmani Zachery finished fourth with a final height of 1.80m.
WOMEN'S SIDE
The day on the track started with
Joy McLeod finishing fifth in the 55m hurdles finals with a final time of 9.43. Later on the track, in the 200m dash,
Kennedy McDonald finished in second with a final time of 27.56 and
Jada Jenkins finished fourth with a time of 27.88. The 800m run also saw a Laker runners-up finish with
Ahlana Failey. The Laker sophomore finished a with a final time of 2:36.29. In the 3000-meter run,
Story Alexander, who is making her Clayton State track debut, finished sixth with a time of 12:51.30. Compeition on the track ended in the 4x400 meter relay as the team of
Mikayla Osborne,
JaBresha Palmer, McDonald and Failey finished third with a time of 4:30.22.
The Lakers also saw a breakout performance from
Jaazer Ridges in the long and triple jumps. Ridges finished fifth in the long jump with a final mark of 4.96m and seventh in the triple jump with a final mark of 10.13m.
