Women's Basketball Fell on the Road at Flagler on Saturday

SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team suffered a 74-62 setback to Flagler College on Saturday afternoon. 
 
Three-pointers by Tamaria White and Jadah Waite got the scoring started early in the first quarter for the Lakers.  Hannah Wright then hit a three and made the score, 12-9.  Flagler then went on a 7-0 run and led 16-12.  A pair of jumpers by Jasmyn Burts then brought the score back to even at 16 apiece.  Both teams struggled offensively in the final couple minutes of the quarter as the score read 19 all after the first 10 minutes of play. 
 
Nina Blade, Devyne Turner, and White scored baskets for the Lakers at the start of the second quarter as the score moved to 29 all.  Both teams played very evenly matched until four minutes left in the quarter.  The Saints finished the half on a 10-2 run and led 39-31 at the half.

Flagler picked up where they left off in the first half and started the quarter on a 7-2 run and led 46-33.  The Lakers did not get their first field goal of the third quarter until Waite hit a three with 3:35 left.  The Lakers trailed 46-38.  Blade and Waite combined to score the final six points for Clayton State as Flagler led 54-44 going into the final quarter of play. 
 
The Lakers saw baskets by Waite and Blade to start the fourth quarter as they cut the Saint lead to 54-48.  Then, Flagler continued to distance themselves from the Lakers as they went on a 14-4 run and led 68-52.  Deborrah Redmon broke up that run converting an and-on opportunity.
 
The Lakers aw points from Turner and White to finish the game but the Flagler College Saints won the game, 74-62.

The Lakers return to the Loch as they host the Bobcats of Georgia College & State University on Wednesday, January 24th.  Tipoff for Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night is set for 5:30 p.m.  The Department of Athletics invites all Clayton State faculty/staff to attend Wednesday's game and they receive free entry into the game.
