SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Clayton State University men's basketball team was edged by Flagler College, 79-74, inside the Flagler Gym on Saturday.
The Lakers started strong in the first half as
Wes Williams and
Travis Harper II hit threes and
Jamall Clyce and
Tyler Shirley hit field goals as the Lakers went up 12-9.
TJ Stargell then knocked down a three and made the score, 15-11. The Lakers eventually went up 22-15 but Flagler turned it on offensively as they went on a 13-0 run and took the lead at 28-22. Two free throws and a jumper by Clyce pulled the Lakers within a possession at 28-26.
The Saints took over the rest of the half and led the Lakers, 45-33 going into the halftime break. Harper II hit a three in the closing seconds to get the Lakers within 12.

Clyce and Stargell got the Lakers on the board to start the second half as the Lakers closed the gap to 10 at 49-39. After a Flagler layup, Stargell continued his offensive production as he scored even of the next 11 points and made the score 60-50. With Flagler up 15 at 69-54, the Lakers highlighted by a dunk by
Mohamad Diallo went on an 11-4 run and got within eight at 73-65. After Flagler extended their lead to 12, Harper II and
Elijah Dates drilled threes and made the score 77-74, with 49 ticks left.
Despite a valiant comeback by the Lakers, the Saints held on and came out on top, 79-74.
