Men's Basketball Falls at Home to Columbus State

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University men's basketball team dropped a 69-66 decision to Columbus State University on Wednesday evening in the Loch.
 
The Lakers led the Cougars early in the first half, 10-6.  Kennedy Brown, TJ Stargell, Wes Williams, Tyler Shirley, and Baqi Lecky all scored points. With the score at 14-12, Columbus State, the Lakers went on a 10-0 run highlighted by a pair of threes from Travis Harper II.  The score moved to 22-14.  After the Cougars closed the gap to four at 24-20, baskets by Eddie Page Brown, and Williams made the score, 31-23. 
 
The Cougars closed the half on a 9-3 run but trailed 35-32 at the halftime break.

Jamall Clyce and Shirley put in baskets for the Lakers in the early part of the second half and the score read, 43-38.  Columbus State then went on a 10-2 run and took the lead at 50-45.  A jumper by Brown halted the Cougar run as the score moved to 50-47.  The two teams then traded baskets throughout the half.  In the midway part of the half, Stargell, Williams, Harper II, Elijah Dates, and Keandre Bowles all marked baskets.  With 5:45, the Cougars held a slim 59-58 lead. 
 
The Cougars used timely offense and saw success from the free throw line down the stretch and outlasted the Lakers, 69-66.
