MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State women's soccer team hosted the No. 19 University of North Georgia Nighthawks at Laker Field on Saturday evening. The Nighthawks scored a second half goal to defeat the Lakers, 1-0.
The Nighthawks dominated the first half as they fired off 12 shots. Luckly for the Lakers,
Lisa Kelm was there to save six of those shots. The Lakers did not have a great opportunity to score despite three corner kicks. The two teams took a 0-0 tie into the locker room.
Julia Hasenecz and
Amiah Sprunger-Hightower both notched shots for the Lakers.
Halftime: #19 North Georgia 0, Clayton State 0
The Lakers put the pressure on the Nighthawks to start the second half. In the 46
th minute, off a corner kick by
Carrie Consolino, Sprunger-Hightower attempted a shot on goal, but it was saved by the North Georgia keeper. The score stayed at 0-0.
Chloe Flannaghan and
Tahlia Stangherlin also fired in shots in the first 10 minutes of the half. In the 64
th minute, the Nighthawks scored the lone goal of the match and led 1-0.
The Lakers kept the pressure on the Nighthawks throughout the duration of the match, but they could not find the back of the net and fell, 1-0.
