Consolino's Late Second Half Goal Lifts the Lakers over the Bobcats

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's soccer team played the Georgia College & State University Bobcats on Wednesday evening.  A goal by Carrie Consolino with under four minutes left lifts the Lakers over the Bobcats, 2-1.

Neither team found the back of the net in the first 45 minutes, but the Lakers had their fair share of chances.  The Lakers put the pressure on early as Serwaah Danso, Tahlia Stangherlin, and Consolino all put shots on frame.  Amiah Sprunger-Hightower and Julia Hasenecz also sent in shots, but none found the back of the net.  The Bobcats were only able to muster three shots the entire half as the Laker defense did a good job in neutralizing the GCSU attack.

Halftime: GCSU 0, Clayton State 0

The second half was a whole different story as three goals were scored.  In the 58th minute, Ida Ditlevsen fed Sprunger-Hightower in the box as she went top-shelf for her second goal of the season.  Clayton State led 1-0.  The Bobcats then put the pressure on the Lakers and tied the match at one in the 66th minute.  The rest of the second half went back-and-forth until the final ten minutes of the match.  In the 86th minute, Consolino was streaking down the middle of the pitch and weaved through three Bobcat defenders, sending a laser past the keeper for her third goal of the season.

Consolino's goal proved to seal the win for Clayton State as they won the match, 2-1.
