MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State University President Dr. Georj Lewis announced on Thursday evening that Dr. Eric Bridges has been appointed as the Department of Athletics' new Faculty Athletics Representative.  Dr. Bridges replaces Dr Rich Singiser, who left the University in July of 2023. 
 
"It is an honor to serve as the Faculty Athletics Representative," said Dr. Bridges. "Especially as Clayton State University embarks on a new era as an institution. As a faculty member it has always been an honor to work with student-athletes as they develop as scholars."
 
Dr. Eric Bridges, who has been at Clayton State since 2008, is a tenured professor in the Department of Psychology and is also the current Faculty Senate Chair.  During his time here, Dr. Bridges has gathered numerous awards and honors such as being awarded the Teacher of the Year and being published in various academic journals pertaining to African American Ethnic Identity Development and Multicultural Gifted Education.   
 
Dr. Bridges received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and his Master of Science from Georgia State in 1993 and 1997, respectively.  He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Educational Psychology from the University of Georgia in 2004. 
 
"We are pleased to welcome Dr. Bridges to the Department of Athletics as our New Faculty Athletics Representative," said Jermaine Rolle, the Director of Athletics. "I have had the opportunity to get to know Dr. Bridges in a short time, and he has demonstrated his unwavering support for Clayton State University and its student-athletes. He always keeps their best interests in mind. Dr. Bridges' integration into the Athletics Department will have a more deliberate and direct impact on the academic and athletic success of our student-athletes, and it will strengthen this department. We are excited to see his contributions and look forward to having him with us."
 
The FAR is a member of the faculty at an NCAA member institution who has been designated by the institution to serve as a liaison between the institution and the athletics department, and as a representative in conference and NCAA affairs.  The role of the FAR is to ensure that the academic institution establishes and maintains the appropriate balance between academics and intercollegiate athletics.
