MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's soccer team opened their 2023 season at Laker Field against the Valdosta State University Blazers on Thursday afternoon. The two teams played to a 3-3 draw.
The Lakers got off to a hot start in the match. In the third minute of the match,
Serwaah Danso served up a cross into the middle of the box, hitting
Amiah Sprunger-Hightower and scored the match's first goal. The Lakers led 1-0. The match remained at 1-0 until the Blazers knocked goals at the 24
th and 34
th minute and took a 2-1 lead. The Lakers then added another goal before the halftime break. After an exceptional defensive play by
Tahlia Stangherlin,
Carrie Consolino knocked in a goal and made the score 2-2.
Each team sent in three shots and the two teams were tied at two at the end of the first 45 minutes of play.

Valdosta State came into the second half with a full head of steam and scored the goal ahead goal in the 49
th minute making the score 3-2. Later in the half, Clayton State scored the equalizing goal. In the 83

Chloe Flannaghan as she sent in a strike from about 30 yards out scoring her first goal of the season.
Both teams were unable to tally the go-ahead goal as the Lakers and Blazers played to a 3-3 draw.
