Women's Soccer Shuts Out West Alabama on the Road

Serwaah Danso marked the lone goal and Lisa Kelm made two match-saving saves

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Clayton State University women's soccer team traveled across the border into Alabama to face the Tigers of the University of West Alabama on Sunday afternoon.  The Lakers shutout the Tigers, 1-0.

The Lakers put the pressure on the Tigers early in the first half.  Amiah Sprunger-Hightower and Ida Ditlevsen both fired shots within the first 15 minutes of the half but they were both saved by the Tiger keeper.  Lois Beer tallied the other two shots of the half, but they did not find the back of the net.  At the end of the first 45 minutes, the two teams played to a 0-0 draw.  West Alabama did not attempt a shot in the first half.

Halftime: Clayton State 0, West Alabama 0

The Lakers started the second half on the right foot and opened the scoring.  In the 49th minute, Sprunger-Hightower was streaking down the far side of the pitch and served up Serwaah Danso who fired a shot into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.  Clayton State took a 1-0 lead.

The Lakers controlled the majority of the second half until the final 10 minutes when the Tigers put on the pressure. In the 84th minute, after a Clayton State red card, UWA sent in a pair of shots, but Lisa Kelm made a pair of unbelievable saves, which kept the score at 1-0.

The Lakers hung on and defeated West Alabama on the road, 1-0.
