CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Clayton State University Track and Field teams completed in the Inaugural West Georgia Legends Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Both teams shared a lot of success in their final tune-up before the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Championships later in April.
The Lakers saw a strong start from
Jada Warren in the women's 5k finishing in fifth place with a time of 19:55.59. The Laker distance team also saw a solid result in the women's 1500-meter run as
Tanaeya Johnson turned in a fifth-place finish with a time of 5:15.09. In the men's portion of the run,
Camron Gaddis also finished fifth with a time of 4:09.32. The Lakers then saw a pair of top three finishers in the women's 400m dash.
Ariyonna Jones finished second in the race with a time of 57.51 while Adrianna Ameer finished third with a time of 57.63. In the men's 400m dash,
Titus Hand crossed the finish line second with a time of 49.31.
In the women's 800m run,
Ahlana Failey and
JaBresha Palmer both placed in the top four. Failey clocked the second fastest time at 2:25.18 while Palmer finished in fourth place with a time of 2:25.56. After finishing eighth in thew 100-meter hurdles,
Joy McLeod finished second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:08.68.
In the relays, the team of Jones,
Maya Adams, Adrianna Ameer, and
Cayla Brown turned in a second-place finish in the women's 4x100 meter relay with a time of 47.91.
The field events started with senior
D'Eris Jackson finishing in tied for first in the long jump with a final mark of 6.67m. That mark qualifies Jackson for the PBC Championships later this month. In the men's high jump, both
Adarius Andrews and
Freddie Hawkins finished in second place after clearing a final height of 1.97m. In the men's triple jump,
Abijah Wilcox jumped to a fourth-place finish and distance of 13.53m. To conclude the field events for the Lakers,
Carlton Grisson finished third in the javelin with a final throw of 43.34m.
