GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Clayton State University track and field teams concluded the Celebration Pointe Invitational on Friday afternoon. The Lakers saw successful performances on the track and in the field events.
The Lakers kicked off the track portion of the day on a high note.
Darryl Jefferson broke the school record in the 500-meter dash with a final time of 1:06.89. He beat the school record by one-tenth-of-a-second which was set in 2011. In the women's 300-meter run,
Mikayla Osborne finished sixth in the race with a final time of 42.44. Osborne was the highest finishing Division II athlete in the race. Osborne then followed up with a stellar performance in the 400-meter dash with a sixth-place finish with a time of 61.16. After a great result in the 200-meter dash yesterday,
Titus Hand turned in a fourth place in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 49.99.
Later, on the track,
Sancho Smith followed up his record-breaking 600-meter run performance yesterday with a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.95.
James Kilgore also went sub-two minutes in the race, clocking a time of 1:59.39. In the 60-meter dash,
Kelvin Oppong finished sixth with a time of 7.13 seconds. Oppong finished eighth overall in the prelims.
The Lakers finished their day on the track in the 4x400 meter relay. On the women's side, the team of Osborne,
JaBresha Palmer,
Sasha Knowles, and
Ahlana Failey finished in sixth with a time of 4:07.06. The men's team of Hand, Jefferson, Kilgore, and Smith finished as the race's runners-up with a time of 3:21.27.
In the field events,
Ny'Asia Green kicked off the action for the Lakers with an 11
th place finish in the long jump and later took fourth in the triple jump with a final mark of 10.56m.
Davonte Jackson and
D'Eris Jackson then took the first two places in the men's long jump with marks of 6.71m and 6.45m, respectively. Davonte then followed up with a second-place finish in the triple jump with a final distance of 13.62m.
Abijah Wilcox finished fourth in the event with a final mark of 13.21m.
