ALBANY, Ga. – The #12 Clayton State University men's golf team opened the Hurricane Invitational at the Doublegate Country Club on Monday. The Lakers find themselves in fifth place after the first 36 holes of play. North Georgia is in first place followed by Nova Southeastern and Carson-Newman in second and third, respectfully.
Leading the charge for the Lakers is senior
Sam Hershoff. Hershoff finished the first 36 holes in tied for fifth at three-under. On the day, Hershoff made 11 birdies and went four-under on the par fours. Both of those stats are good for second in the field. Following Hershoff is
Nico Cabello. The Laker senior finished day one at tied for seventh place at two-under. Cabello led the field going six-under in the par fours.
Felipe Gomez and
Daniel Medellin follow behind Hershoff and Cabello. Gomez finished day one in tied for 35
th at three-over while Medellin stood in tied for 39
th at four-over.
Augusto Oliva rounded out the Lakers in the Hurricane Invitational finishing in tied for 51
st at six-over.
As a team, the Lakers are second shooting one-over on the par fours and are tied for third-best with 35 total birdies. The Lakers shot a first-round 284, which is the second-best round on the season.
The Lakers conclude play at the Hurricane Invitational on Tuesday, February 28
th at the Doublegate Country Club.
