Men's Basketball Edged by Flagler on Senior Night

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University men's basketball team was edged by the Flagler College Saints, 80-77, on Senior Night.  Brian Coffey II led the Lakers with 21 points and eight assists. 
 
The Saints took control of the beginning of the first half, scoring nine of the first 12 of first 15 points.  The Lakers then cut into that deficit as Kobie Johnson, Travis Harper II, and Wes Williams all tosse din buckets.  The Saints still led 12-10.  After the Saints made a layup, Coffey II and Baqi Lecky made threes and put the Lakers out in front, 23-18. At the score 34-31, Flagler, the Lakers retook the lead after Lecky and Ricardo Saams Jr. dropped in buckets and made the score, 36-34. 
 
The Saints finished the half with all the momentum as they scored the final seven points of the half and went into the halftime break ahead 41-36.

Coffey II kicked off the scoring for the Lakers in the second half as they still trailed 53-47.  Brian scored the first 11 points for the Lakers in the half.   With nine minutes left and down by nine, Clayton State made a huge comeback.  Xavier Joyner sparked a 9-2 run and cut the deficit to 72-70.  The Laker sophomore drained a three on that run. With three minutes left, two free throws by Saams Jr. and a three by Williams put the Lakers on top, 75-74 with 2:28 left. 
 
Coffey II made a pair of free throws to take the late lead for the Lakers at 77-75, but the Saints drained a three and made a pair of free throws and edged the Lakers, 80-77.
