Jones' Jumper with Two Seconds Left Lifts Clayton State Over #10 Georgia Southwestern

Jones led the Lakers with 15 points

MORROW, Ga. – Jordan Jones' jumper with two seconds was enough as the Clayton State University women's basketball team upset the No. 10 Georgia Southwestern State University Hurricanes, 64-62, on Wednesday night. 
 
The two teams played a very close first 10 minutes of the game.  Audrey McElhaney and Laylah Davis kicked off the scoring for the Lakers as they took an early 5-2 lead.  With the Lakers up 7-4, the Hurricanes went on an 8-0 run and took the lead at 12-7.  Two field goals by Jones and two free throws by Jada Francois Lubin led to the Lakers taking back the lead at 13-12.  The two teams ended the quarter tied at 16.
 
Dana Johnson and Jones kicked off the scoring for the Lakers in the second quarter and held onto a slim 20-19 lead.  The two teams kept trading blows in most of the quarter.  After Davis hit a jumper with 3:50 left, Georgia Southwestern went on a 6-0 run and led 31-28. 
 
Jones scored with 12 ticks on the clock as the Lakers only trailed by one at 31-30 at the half.  Davis led the Lakers with nine points.

Diamond Swift kicked off the scoring for the Lakers as she buried a three and made the score 33 all.  At the score, 38-35, Jada Moss converted an and-one opportunity and tied the game back at 38.  At the score 40-39, Lakers, the Hurricanes went on a 6-0 scoring run and led 45-40.  McElhaney converted an and-one opportunity and stalled the Hurricane run.  Georgia Southwestern led the Lakers 47-45 after three quarters. 
 
McElhaney and Jones supplied the early offense for the Lakers in the fourth quarter.  Clayton State led 50-49, early.  Like the rest of the game, the two teams kept the game close.  With 1:20 left in the game, Jasmyn Burts made a layup and tied the game at 60.  After Davis nailed two free throws, the Hurricanes tied the game at 62 with 14 ticks left. 
 
Jordan Jones then hit a jumper with two seconds left as the Lakers upset Georgia Southwestern, 64-62.
