MORROW, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) unveiled on Monday afternoon its inaugural indoor track & field players of the week. The Clayton State University track & field program saw two of its athletes earn Player of the Week honors. On the men's side,
Freddie Hawkins was awarded the league's Male Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, while
Ariyonna Jones earned the Indoor Female Track Athlete of the Week.
A native of Sanford, Fla.,
Freddie Hawkins got off to a hot start as he finished fourth in the men's high jump with a final mark of 1.95m. Hawkins had the second best mark in the meet and beat out 32 other jumpers. A native of Dublin, Ga., Jones, like Hawkins, got off to a fast start to her indoor season. In the 200m dash, Jones set a new PR with a final time of 25.04, which was good for a seventh-place finish in the meet. Jones was two hundredths-of-a-second away from tying the school record. In the 400m dash, Jones placed ninth with a final time of 58.94. That time is good for the third fastest time in school history. Of the runners that finished above Jones, seven were from Division I schools.
The Lakers are on hiatus until after the New Year as they travel back to Birmingham for the Emory CrossPlex Invitational on Sunday, January 14
