OAKWOOD, Ga. – Story Alexander,
Rakiem Barnes, and
Danny Ortega of the Clayton State University cross country teams competed in the 2023 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional at the UNG Cross Country Course on Saturday morning.
Alexander, who is a junior from Gilbert, Ariz., ran in the 6k women's race. Story finished in 84
th place out of 164 runners with a time of 24:46.3. She ran her race with an average mile time of 6:38.4. Alexander ends the 2023 season as one of the most consistent runners on the team as she placed in the top three in each of the five previous meets ran.
In the men's race,
Rakiem Barnes led the Lakers. He finished in 84
th place with a final time of 33:07.8. That time is good for ninth all-time in program history as he passes Ryan Polk. This is Barnes' first 10k race in his collegiate career.
Danny Ortega finished his first 10k race with a time of 40:22.7.

That concludes the season for the Clayton State University cross country teams. This season saw numerous PRs, many times that broke into the top-25 in program history and six top-five team finishes combined.
