MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team controlled the tempo of the game throughout as they defeated the Jaguars of Augusta University, 77-67, at the Loch, on Saturday afternoon.

Jada Francois Lubin, and a three by
Jasmyn Burts put the Lakers up early in the first quarter, 7-4. Then the Lakers continued their strong start. At seven all, the Lakers went on a 9-2 run and made the score 16-9. The Lakers ended the first quarter up, 21-13.
Audrey McElhaney gave the Lakers a 23-13 advantage as they opened the second quarter. After Augusta cut the Laker lead to four, the Lakers went on a 10-2 run and extended their lead to 33-21. The Jaguars made a three in the final minute of the half, but the Lakers held a 33-24 lead over Augusta.

Like the second quarter, McElhaney supplied the early offense for Clayton State in the third quarter as they led 35-24. The Lakers continued to push the tempo in the game. At the score, 37-31, a three-pointer by
Jordan Jones and jumpers by
Diamond Swift and McElhaney pushed the Laker lead to 44-31. The Lakers scored the final points of the quarter as they led, 53-38 after three quarters.
Laylah Davis hit a three down the stretch for Clayton State.
After Augusta scored the first six points of the fourth quarter, Francois Lubin marked the next four points for the Lakers as they still held a double-digit lead at 57-44. At the score, 57-46, Davis drained a three and McElhaney buried a jumper on back-to-back possessions and ballooned the Laker lead to 62-48.
The Lakers knocked down seven of their final 10 free throws as they sealed a 77-67 win over Augusta.
