Clayton State Downs Flagler in Florida on Wednesday Evening

SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team traveled down to the Sunshine State and defeated the Flagler College Saints, 68-54 on Wednesday evening. 
 
Jasmyn Burts scored the first Laker points in the first couple seconds of the game.  Jada Francois Lubin then buried a three and the Lakers jumped out to a 5-0 lead.  With the score 8-4, the Saints went on a 9-0 run and led 13-8.  Flagler nailed back-to-back threes on that run.  The Lakers countered with a 10-2 run and retook the lead at 18-13.  I'Uana Slaughter and Devyne Turner hit threes during that run.  The Saints scored the final four points of the quarter, but Clayton State took an 18-17 lead going into the second quarter. 
 
Laylah Davis and Slaughter combined for the first Laker points of the second quarter and extended their lead to 23-17.   The Saints then went on an 11-2 scoring run and led 28-25.  Audrey McElhaney tallied the lone points for the Lakers. Clayton State scored six of the final seven points of the half and took a 33-31 lead going into the halftime break.

The three-ball worked for the Lakers early in the third quarter as Diamond Swift tossed in one and Turner drained a pair.  Clayton State jumped out in front 46-38.  With 2:39 left, Slaughter dropped in a pair of layups and grew the Laker lead to 51-38.  The Saints closed the gap as they scored seven of the final nine points, but the Lakers took a commanding 53-45 lead going into the final quarter of play. 
 
The Lakers controlled the tempo from the get-go in the fourth quarter as Jordan Jones tossed in a pair of free throws and McElhaney converted an and-one opportunity.  The Lakers ballooned their lead to 13 at 58-45.  In the next several minutes, McElhaney, Davis, and Turner all made baskets and med the score 64-49.  The Saints then scored the next five points, all off of free throws, and closed the gap to 10 at 64-54. 
 
The Lakers made their free throws down the stretch, led by as much as 15, and defeated the Flagler College Saints, 68-54.
