Bobcats Down Lakers with a Buzzer-Beating Layup on Saturday

MORROW, Ga. – Georgia College and State University used a buzzer-beating layup to defeat the Clayton State University Lakers, 60-58, on Saturday afternoon. 
 
Both teams got off to a good start as they traded the first eight points, making the score four all.  Jasmyn Burts and Jordan Jones hit shots for the Lakers.  Then the Lakers saw a three by Hannah Wright and field goals by Laylah Davis and shot out to a 12-6 lead.  The Bobcats cut into their deficit and only trailed by one at 15-14 at the end of one quarter. 
 
Field goals by Raven Riley and Jessica Maye gave the Lakers an early 19-14 lead at the beginning of the second quarter.  After three by the Bobcats, the Lakers went on to score the next seven points and grew their lead to 26-17.
 
The Lakers scored only five more points but took a 31-22 lead going into the half.

The third quarter was not kind to the Lakers as they did not mark their first points until the 4:31 mark as they held onto a 33-32 lead.  With the Bobcats up three at 36-33, Jada Francois Lubin hit a three and deadlocked the game at 36. The Lakers saw field goals from Audrey McElhaney and Davis as both teams went into the fourth quarter tied at 40. 
 
The Lakers started the fourth quarter going on a 8-2 run and made the score, 46-42.  After Georgia College made a jumper, the Lakers continued to pressure the Bobcats and went on to mark 10 of the next 11 points.  Davis and Maye buried threes and the Lakers led, 56-45.  The Bobcats then answered with an 11-0 run and tied the game at 56. 
 
Maye buried a jumper with 54 seconds left but the Bobcats tied the game with 36 seconds and hit the buzzer beating layup with .7 left.  The Bobcats came back and downed the Lakers, 60-58.
