Men's Golf | September 20, 2022

GAINESVILLE, Ga. – The Clayton State University men's golf team played in the Mizuno Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of North Georgia on Monday and Tuesday.  The Lakers finished fourth in the tournament with a score of even par. 
 
The Lakers shined in the first day of action.  Leading the charge for Clayton State was senior Augusto Oliva.  Oliva shot over par in the first round but came back and carded a 69 in the second round.  At the end of the first 36 holes, Oliva finished tied for eighth.  Following Augusto was Daniel Medellin.  The Laker sophomore finished the first round with a 69 (-3) but then carded a 75 (+3) in the second round and was in tied for 17^th.  Nico Cabello then followed Medellin carding a first round 71 (-1) then followed that with a second round 75 (+3).  The Santiago, Chile native finished his first 36-holes in tied for 29^th.  Rounding out the first day of action was Felipe Gomez and Sam Hershoff.  Gomez finished the first two rounds in tied for 39^th and shot +3 for the day.  Hershoff stood in tied for 47^th after day one and carded a +4 for the day. 
 
After the first 36 holes, the Lakers stood in fourth place as a team.  Clayton State saw two rounds in the 60s and four rounds of par or better. 
 
The Lakers kept up the pace in the final round.  Medellin continued to lead the Lakers as he shot a final round of 70 (-2) and finished in tied for 10^th.  In the tournament, Medellin was one of only 11 players that shot under par on the par fours.  Following Medellin was Oliva.  The Buenos Aires, Argentina native carded a final round 73 (+1) and finished tied for 14^th place.  Going up 20 spots in the field was Gomez.  Gomez carded a final round 71 (-1) and placed tied for 19^th.   Overall, the Santander, Spain native was tied for sixth in the field shooting -5 on the par fives.  Following Gomez was Cabello, who finished with a final round 74 (+2) and was tied for 29^th.  Wrapping up the Laker finishers was Hershoff who finished in tied for 70^th place after shooting a final round 78 (+6). 
 
As a team, the Lakers were tied for second in the field in total pars (177) and fifth in total birdies (44). The Lakers ended the tournament in fourth place and finished even as a team.

NEW CAREER MARKS
Gomez set a new career-high for the lowest score in a single tournament, while Medellin tied his career-high for the lowest score in a single tournament.  864 is the lowest team score since the Lakers shot an 863 in the Peach Belt Championships last season.

The Lakers compete in the Columbus State Cougar Invitational on Monday, September 26^th through Tuesday, September 27^th.  The tournament will be played at the Green Island Country Club in Columbus, Ga.
