MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State men's basketball team led early, but fell 87-63 to USC Aiken in Monday's Peach Belt Conference showdown.
The Lakers led 14-7 at the 15:38 mark in the first half, but were then outscored 11-0 to trail by four a little over two minutes later. Clayton State rallied and trailed by two, but that would be the closest the Lakers got to Aiken for the remainder of the game.
The Pacers pulled away and led 44-34 at halftime.
Four players scored in double figures for Clayton State which was led by
Ricardo Saams Jr. with 16 points. He added seven rebounds while
Jalen Shaw scored 13 and also had seven boards.
The second half belonged to the Pacers who outscored the Lakers 43-29. Aiken was led by David Strother and his 20 points.
Ricardo Lynch added 11 points while
Brian Coffey II scored 10. The Lakers only went to the free throw line 11 times.
