MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State women's basketball team moved one step closer to a home Peach Belt Conference tournament game after taking a 74-60 win over Georgia College Saturday afternoon.
The Lakers jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Georgia College answered to tie the game 9-9 at the 4:38 mark.
Clayton State answered with an 8-0 run and led 21-15 after one quarter.
With the win, the Lakers take sole possession of fourth in the conference standings after Columbus State fell to North Georgia. They hold a one-game lead over Columbus and Augusta.
Clayton State closes the season on Saturday, Feb. 26 at home against Augusta.
The Bobcats kept it close for most of the second quarter until the Lakers pulled ahead by seven to make it a 37-30 game at halftime.
Timi'a Swanson continued her hot streak with 20 points. Over the past seven games, the senior is averaging 15.8 points.
The Lakers held tough in the third and extended their lead to 11 off a
Raven Riley 3-pointer with one minute to play in the period.
The fourth was a similar scene as Clayton State kept the intensity and closed the game with a pair of
Johanna Bell free throws.
With the win, the Lakers have won nine-straight over Georgia College.
Audrey McElhaney added 10 points, six rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
Up Next:
- Clayton State will host Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff. The Lakers then close the regular season on Saturday with Augusta.
