Womack Scores 20 in Loss to Georgia College

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State men's basketball team dropped a tough matchup Saturday to Georgia College, falling 79-71 in a Peach Belt Conference showdown.

The two teams traded baskets early with Clayton State holding an 8-7 lead at the 13:04 mark in the first. The Bobcats then used a barrage of 3-pointers to pull ahead 24-8 in a little less than a five-minute span.

A Xavier Womack jumper stopped the GC run at 7:58. The jumper started an 11-5 run for Clayton State with all 11 points coming from Womack.

The Bobcats answered back, extending the lead to 17 before a pair of Ricardo Lynch and Brian Coffey II 3-pointers closed the half.

Womack scored a career-high 20 points in the loss while adding a season-best nine rebounds.

Clayton State chipped away at the lead during the second half and pulled within four with 13:44 remaining. The Lakers kept the deficit under double digits until Georgia College used an 11-0 run to pull back ahead by 17.

The Lakers responded by making it a six-point game with 27 seconds left, but time ran out as Georgia College left Morrow with the win.

Jalen Shaw added 12 points while Wes Williams had 11. 

As a team, Georgia College shot 60.9% from behind the arc, going 14-of-23.
