McElhaney Posts a Double-Double in 66-64 Loss to Lincoln Memorial

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Clayton State women's basketball team concluded play at the North Georgia Classic playing the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial.  The Lakers were edged by the Railsplitters, 66-64. 
 
Laylah Davis knocked down a three to begin the game and made the score, 3-0.  With the Lakers up, 7-4, the Railsplitters went on a 7-0 run and took an 11-7 lead.  The Railsplitters scored six of the final eight points of the quarter and led 17-13.  Jasmyn Burts made the lone field goal for the Lakers. 
 
Audrey McElhaney scored the first four points of the second quarter, but the Lakers trailed 24-18.  The two teams then went back-and-forth as neither team led by as much as three.  Jadah Waite and Diamond Swift both knocked down field goals midway through the quarter. Late in the quarter, the Railsplitters led by as much as six but a three by Raven Riley, with 13 ticks left, cut the deficit in half to 33-30.  The two teams went into the locker room with that same score.

The Lakers came out of the locker room and went on a 14-5 run and took the lead, 42-38.  McElhaney made three field goals during that stretch.  The Lakers saw field goals from Burts and Riley down the stretch and went into the fourth quarter leading the Railsplitters, 50-42. 
 
Lincoln Memorial started the fourth quarter strong and scored the first seven points and made the score 50-49.  McElhaney made a pair of free throws to extend the Clayton State lead to 52-49.  With five minutes left and the Lakers up 59-52, Lincoln Memorial went on a 9-0 run, and they took a 61-59 lead. 
 
The Lakers took a 64-63 lead with 46 seconds left, but the Railsplitters marked the final three points of the game as they defeated Clayton State, 66-64.
