Bearcats Edge Lakers, 2-1, on Wednesday Night

Julia Hasenecz scored her first goal of the season

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Clayton State University women's soccer team played the Bearcats of Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference matchup on Wednesday evening.  Lander scored a late goal in the 85th minute to win the match, 2-1.

The Lakers played on the defense most of the first half and they did not tally a shot.  Amiah Sprunger-Hightower had the lone counter for the Lakers in the middle of the half but that did not amount to anything.  Keeper Trinity Chastain was busy as she made three saves in the half on six shots faced. The Lakers and Bearcats went to the break tied at zero.

Halftime: Clayton State 0, Lander 0

The second half started as Felicia Wallin fired the first Laker shot but it was stuffed by the Bearcat keeper.  The Bearcats ended the match's scoring drought as they took a 1-0 lead in the 67th minute.  The Lakers then tied the match.  In the 83rd minute, off of a free kick by Wallin, Hasenecz notched her first goal of the season making the score 1-1.  A couple of minutes later, the Bearcats scored the go-ahead goal and made the score, 2-1.

Kamila Mroziewicz connected with a last-minute shot but that shot was smothered by Lander's keeper as they went on to win, 2-1.
