Dr. Richard Bowles to Serve as the Team Physician for the Clayton State Department of Athletics

MORROW, Ga. – Head Athletic Trainer Jamal Watson announced on Friday morning that Dr. Richard Bowles will serve as the new Team Physician for the athletic department.  Dr. Bowles is a part of the OrthoAtlanta system, who sponsors our Athletic Training Room at Clayton State. 
 
"Dr. Bowles is very enthusiastic about working with our student-athletes," said Watson.  "He is very knowledgeable and experienced.  I believe this will be a beneficial relationship between OrthoAtlanta and Clayton State Athletics moving forward."
 
Dr. Bowles is an orthopedic surgeon with a specialization in Sports Medicine.  His specific interests are ACL reconstructions, complex knee surgeries, and advanced arthroscopic surgeries.  Dr. Bowles is member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Orthopedic Society of America, the Orthopedic Trauma Association, and the Cleveland Clinic Warthog Society. Additionally, Dr. Bowles is also certified within the Board of Orthopedic Surgery.   
 
Dr. Bowles graduated from the University of Louisville with a degree of Electrical Engineering in 2001 and continued onto its Medical School and graduated in 2012.  Dr. Bowles completed his internship at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts in 2013 and completed his residency in 2017 at the University of Colorado.  Finally, he completed his Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinch in Sports Medicine in 2018.
 
Dr. Bowles is no stranger to the sports world as has worked as a team physician for the United States Ski and Snowboard team and the Georgia Revolution Soccer Club.  His interests include skiing, rock climbing, mountaineering, aviation, woodworking, and playing the guitar.
