MORROW, Ga. –
Audrey McElhaney scored 24 points as the Clayton State women's basketball team held off a furious Clark Atlanta attack to win 85-83 Tuesday evening inside The Loch.
Leading 73-54 with just one quarter left to play, the Lakers seemed poised to close out the Panthers and take their fifth win of the season.
Clark Atlanta then outscored Clayton State 29-12 in the final 10 minutes but ran out of time as the
Kaleena Coleman '06 led team held on for its first home win of the season.
In addition to her 24 points, McElhaney added 11 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals to her stat line.
Jadah Waite scored 17 points while
Taniya Patrick had 13 points, seven rebounds and four blocks.
The game seemed to be in control for the Lakers as they led 45-33 at halftime.
The third quarter was more even as Clayton State only outscored the Panthers by seven.
The Lakers pulled ahead by 20 off a
Devyne Turner layup in the fourth, but CAU started to chip away at the lead and closed the final 7:15 with a 24-6 run.
Diamond Swift had three points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.
Hannah Wright scored 12 points off the bench.
