BELMONT, N.C. – The Clayton State women's basketball team dropped its first true road game of the season on Friday with a 52-47 loss at Belmont Abbey.

Hannah Wright led all scorers with 13 points while Taniya Patrick recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. She also had two blocks and two assists.

Belmont jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead, but Clayton State answered with a Patrick layup and a Diamond Swift 3-pointer to lead 5-4 with 6:28 on the clock. The Crusaders closed the quarter outscoring the Lakers 11-6.

Seven-straight points by Wright opened the second and put Clayton State ahead 18-15 just two minutes into the quarter. The Lakers continued their scoring run and added eight more points in three minutes to lead by 11 with five minutes left. Belmont Abbey answered back and only trailed by three at halftime.

The battle continued throughout the third quarter as both teams traded the lead. The Lakers went ahead on a pair of Wright free throws with under five minutes left and closed the quarter with an 11-4 run to lead 42-35 with only the fourth quarter left to play.

Timi'a Swanson added a team-high 12 rebounds and recorded three steals.

The fourth quarter has been a strong point for the Lakers this season as they have outscored opponents by nearly eight points per game, but Belmont Abbey flipped the script and outscored the Lakers 17-5 in the final 10 minutes to escape with the win.
