MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State men's basketball team closed out the Clayton State Classic with a 78-69 win over Tuskegee Saturday afternoon.
Ricardo Lynch played 34 minutes and scored a season-high 25 points to go along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
The first half was a close battle as the Lakers led for almost the entirety of the first 20 minutes.
Clayton State slowly built its lead and held a 15-point advantage over the Golden Tigers with 4:11 left to play. Tuskegee closed the half with a 7-1 run to trail 39-30 at halftime.
Back-to-back 3-pointers from Lynch and a dunk from
Jalen Shaw put the Lakers back up by 15 with 15:59 to play, but Tuskegee used to a 20-3 run to take the lead with just under 11 minutes left in the game.
The two teams traded the lead in the final half of the half, but a
Wes Williams 3-pointer, his fourth of the game, put Clayton State up 63-61. That would be the final lead change.
The Lakers closed the game hitting 11-of-12 free throws, six coming from Lynch.
Ricardo Saams Jr. and
Jalen Shaw each had 13 points and five rebounds. Williams finished with 12 points.
