ATLANTA – The Clayton State women's basketball team made its way up I-75 Monday for an exhibition matchup against Division I Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets took the win 74-53 at the McCamish Pavilion.Â
Tech jumped out to a quick lead and led 13-0 before
Devyne Turner hit a pair of free throws with 2:34 left to play in the opening quarter. A made three by
Jadah Waite cut the deficit back to eight, but Tech led 20-7 after the first quarter.Â
The second quarter was much closer as the Lakers were outscored by just three points.Â
Another Waite 3-pointer cut Tech's lead to 10 in the opening minute of the quarter, but the Yellow Jackets maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second and led 44-28 at halftime.Â
The third quarter mirrored the first half as Tech built its lead to 24 points and led 62-38 heading into the fourth quarter.Â
Clayton State won the fourth quarter 15-12 to end the game down 21 points.Â
Freshman
Hannah Wright led all Clayton State scorers with 12 points and finished the game 4-of-9 from 3-point range.Â
Jadah Waite added 11 points while
Raven Riley and
Timi'a Swanson had nine and eight points, respectively.Â
13 players saw action while
Audrey McElhaney played 27 minutes.Â
