Clayton State Heads to Auburn-Montgomery Ranking in the Top-10 of Seven Division II Statistical Categories

MORROW, Ga. – Offense, defense and everything in between seems to have been Clayton State (6-1, 0-0 PBC) men's soccer's strength as they appear in the Top-10 of seven NCAA Division II statistical categories as they head to Auburn-Montgomery (3-3, 1-0 GSC) for a non-conference matchup on Saturday, September 28. Game time is set for 7 p.m. (EST) in Montgomery, Alabama.

It will be just the third time the teams have met, with the first two seeing a 20 year gap. AUM notched a 3-1 victory on September 12, 1996 at Laker Field while Clayton State won by the same score on September 14, 2016 in Montgomery, Alabama. Most recently the Lakers delivered a 5-1 victory at Laker Field on September 27, 2017. Scheduled to play in 2018, that game was cancelled due to inclement weather.

NATIONAL STATISTICAL RANKINGS
Clayton State has made their mark nationally, both by breaking back into the national polls for the first time in eight years last week at No. 19 but in the statistical rankings as well. As of the September 25 release, they are third in the nation in total goals (23), fourth in goals against average (.306), fifth in total points (59), sixth in save percentage (.929), eighth in scoring offense (3.29), ninth in shutout percentage (.714) and 10th in points per game (8.43).

Individually, the numbers are just as impressive as redshirt-senior Ryan King (County Durham, England) has delivered a tremendous start to the season. While he currently falls below the threshold of playing in 75-percent of his team's games, his totals of seven goals and 15 points would tie for third and fifth, respectively. He will rejoin the national rankings once he hits that percentage.

On top of that, junior goalkeeper Theo Blachon (St. Etienne, France) is tied for first in the country with five shutouts, is fourth in goals against average (0.28) and fifth in save percentage (.929) and fifth in goalie minutes played (589.05). Additionally, sophomore Brad Kay (Manchester, England) is 11th in total goals with five.
