OAKWOOD, Ga. – In his first time donning the Orange and Blue, sophomore
Gyasi Cockrell (Suwanee, Ga.) delivered on the promise he showed last year at Shorter as he led Clayton State men's cross country with a Top-10 finish at the Seventh Annual UNG Invitational on Saturday, September 14. As a team they finished with 146 points.

Cockrell posted an impressive 6-of-101 finish behind a time of 27:50.00 to lead the way for the Lakers while junior
Zach Czerniak (Suwanee, Ga.) came in 28
th with a mark of 29:11.30.

Not far behind was freshman
Javier Castillo (Forest Park, Ga.) in 33
rd (29:37.70) and redshirt-sophomore
Courtland White (Rex, Ga.) in 41
st (30:14.90). Junior
Na'im Allen (McDonough, Ga.) rounded out the top finishers with a 45
th place finish and time of 30:18.80.

West Alabama narrowly won the race with 57 points just ahead of Emmanuel's 58 while Piedmont was a distant third.

The Lakers will jump right into the season as they are back in action next Friday, September 20. Slated for a 7:25 p.m. start, they will compete in the 2019 Wingfoot XC Classic hosted by the Atlanta Track Club in nearby Cartersville, Georgia.
